Featured Dadpreneur – Tom Nathaniel of Lushdollar.com

I’ve been a “Dadpreneur” ever since my son was born 8 years ago, but I was working from home well before that.  I now have a total of 2 children, ages 8 and almost 5.

Here are my tips…

  1.  My first tip is always making sure you have a strict schedule for the weeks, with goals you want to achieve. Crossing them out and knowing what needs to be accomplished can make you feel successful at the end of the week.

  1.  As a second tip, make sure you get out of the house with the kids.  I take my kids to the park, pool, etc and bring my laptop while they are playing.  This is usually a win-win on both sides as it’s a great refresher to get away from home.  Bad weather? Find an indoor activity like library activity rooms, community center, etc.

  1.  Third, find a way to ship them out of the house throughout the week.  My mom and mother-in-law help watch the kids at least once a week, giving me the whole day to myself.

  1.  Lastly, work a wacky schedule. DON’T think the 9-5 schedule.  Instead, work 1 hour before they get up and 1 hour after they go to bed.  If you have a significant other, work while they are at home if possible.

Working with kids can be tough, but it can be done once you find the rhythm.  Thankfully, my second one is heading to Kinder next year, so I will get 5 days a week to myself!
